Men’s Tennis Falls 6-1 at Saint Joseph’s

MDEIA, Pa. – The Quinnipiac University men's tennis team suffered its second loss of the dual-match season on Friday, falling 6-1 to Atlantic 10 foe Saint Joseph's inside the Springton Tennis Club in Media, Pa.

The Bobcats gave up the early doubles point, with losses at the first and second flights, then dropped points at No. 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 singles. With the loss, Quinnipiac fell to 4-2 on the season while the hosting Hawks picked up their first win of the 2013-14 campaign (1-1).

Quinnipiac's lone point over the Hawks came at No. 3 singles, where Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) topped Dan Barrus in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Additionally, Bobcats freshmen Patrick Sell (Neuenbuerg, Germany) and Ryoma Haraguchi (New York, N.Y.) pushed their matches at No. 2 singles and No. 5 singles to three sets, before losing. Sell was defeated by Pierre Brondeau, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8, and Haraguchi fell short to Kyle Chalmers, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

Despite dropping the point, Luke Roser (Bernardsville, N.J.) and Haraguchi picked up a win at No. 3 doubles. Roser and Haraguchi outlasted Tristan Boustany and Chalmers, 6-4.

The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow night, Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, with the backend of their weekend doubleheader. Quinnipiac takes on Delaware at 6 p.m. at the Elkton Indoor Tennis Center in Elkton, Md.
