HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University men's tennis head coach Mike Quitko has announced that Julian Rozenstein has signed a National Letter of Intent and will be listed on the Bobcats' roster for the beginning of the 2014-15 campaign. Rozenstein, who hails from Morganville, N.J., will look to make an immediate impact on the Bobcat rotation next fall.
"Julian is a tremendous addition to the men's tennis program," said Quitko. "He brings a lot of passion on the court and will make an immediate impact in our starting line-up. Julian has consistently been ranked among the nation's best players, and has been one of New Jersey's top athletes for quite some time."
Rozenstein, who is a four-star recruit on Tennisrecruiting.net, is an elite level talent who once obtained a USTA National Ranking within the top 30. His most recent ranking was No. 67 in the nation, which was in the 16's bracket. He was also ranked No. 2 and No. 4 at one point in the USTA Eastern Sectional 16's Ranking, and is currently ranked No. 3 in the entire state of New Jersey.
Rozenstein's most recent competition took place in Canada at the Aces U18 ITF Doubles Tournament, where he advanced to partake in the Championship match. This past year, he won the doubles segment at the USTA National Open, and received the bronze medal at the USTA National Clay Court event as well.
"I am extremely excited about attending Quinnipiac where I plan on studying sports medicine and joining the Bobcat family," said Rozenstein. "Although the men's tennis program has already archived considerable success, I am committed to enhancing the programs reputation and strongly believe that the men's tennis program will soon be recognized as one of the finest in the country. Being able to play tennis for Quinnipiac and to receive an outstanding education will fulfill many of my personal goals and will most definitely prepare me for a rewarding future."
Rozenstein is currently training at the prestigious John McEnroe Academy on Randall's Island with Felix Alvarado and Lawrence Kleger. He resides in Morganville with his parents, Stella and Alexander Rozenstein, and his sister, Lauren.
Quinnipiac finished with a 4-0 record in dual-match play this past fall, matching its best start since the 2009-10 season. The Bobcats won over 75 percent of their matches in singles and over 60 percent in doubles.
The Bobcats will take some time off over the holidays to rest up for their first spring season in the MAAC. Quinnipiac's next match is on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at Brown at the Pizzitola Center in Providence, R.I.
