Bobcats Win Second Straight; Men's Tennis Rolls Past Monmouth, 5-2

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – With wins at four of six singles matches, and two of three doubles, the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team won its second straight conference match with a 5-2 victory over NEC foe Monmouth University on Monday evening. The Bobcats improve to 3-2 in league play, while the Hawks fall below the .500 mark to 1-2.

Monmouth started strong, winning at No. 1 doubles, 8-6. However, it was all QU from there as Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Luke Roser (Bernardsville, N.J.) teamed up to win 8-6 at No. 2 and Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) and Chris Nelson (Scituate, Mass.) secured the point with an 8-2 decision in the second flight.

In singles action, the bottom half of the rotation was terrific as No. 3 through No. 6 each won in straight sets. Ambrosio picked up his 26th career singles win at No. 3; Roser collected his 18th career win at No. 4; Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) notched his 77th career win at No. 5; and Corey Morgenstern (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) reached the 50-win plateau with a perfect sweep, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6.

The Bobcats are now 10-2 against Monmouth since the 2006 campaign, which includes a 2-2 mark in the NEC Tournament.

Quinnipiac (6-10, 3-2 NEC) endures a quick turnaround and returns to action tomorrow, April 9th, at Fordham. First serve is set for 12 p.m. at the Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts in the Bronx.
