Men's Tennis Drops Non-Conference Showdown With South Carolina State, 6-1

ORLANDO, Fla. – Sophomore Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) came up big with two victories on Thursday against South Carolina State but the Quinnipiac men's tennis team fell short against the Bulldogs, 6-1, from Orlando, Fla. The loss drops the Bobcats to 3-7 on the season while SCSU improves to 6-2.

Barbero was on his game early and often for Quinnipiac as he combined with senior Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) at No. 2 for the lone doubles victory for the Bobcats, 8-5, over Petreis Vinogradous and Marius Dragoi. The No. 1 doubles team of senior Fahoum Fahoum (Haifa, Israel) and freshman Luke Roser (Bernardsville, N.J.) were defeated 8-1 while the No. 3 tandem of sophomore John Petrini (Stamford, Conn.) and senior Chris Nelson (Scituate, Mass.) were taken down, 8-4.

The Bobcats competed in singles action as Barbero again played some of his best tennis of the season with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 1 over Tomas Bizon to help Quinnipiac land their first and only point of the afternoon. Fahoum also battled very well in his contest at No. 2 against Anton Protsenko as the senior lost the first set, gutted out a second set win in a tiebreak, and then lost in heartbreaking fashion, 10-8, in the third set tiebreaker.

The Tigers carried the momentum through the rest of the singles affairs as SCSU claimed victories throughout the remainder of the singles contests on their way to a 6-1 victory, their fifth match win in-a-row.
