NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University men's tennis team wrapped up play at the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Tournament on Saturday afternoon at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven, Conn. Four Bobcats took the court at Yale University in day three of the four-day event.
The USTA/ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players across the country. Over 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete at one of the 87 USTA/ITA Regional Championships held across the country.
Unfortunately for the Bobcats, the talented field of athletes proved to be too much for Quinnipiac. Four Bobcats took part in the consolation bracket, each falling to their opponent in the first round. Fahoum Fahoum (Haifa, Israel) was defeated by Stony Brook's Mons Kadutson, 6-3, 6-3; Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) was defeated by St. John's Hugo Morth, 7-5, 6-3; Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) was defeated by Binghamton's Florian Van Kann, 6-3, 6-0; and Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) was defeated by NJIT's Petr Rousar, 6-4, 6-4.
The Bobcats conclude their fall season next weekend with the Connecticut State Championships. Play opens up on Friday, October 26 at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven, Conn.
