Quinnipiac University Invitational Doubles Results

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University men's tennis team opened competition at the Quinnipiac University Invitational on Friday afternoon, as a field of eight teams took part in doubles at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts on Mount Carmel Campus.

"It's great to be back on our home court for this tournament," said head coach Mike Quitko, who remains just 15 wins shy of 500 for his career at Quinnipiac. "Our guys played hard and that's all you can ask for in the fall season. We have a lot of new pairings out there, so they are still learning how to play with one another. They get better and better every time they step out onto the court."

The opening round went very well for the Bobcats, as senior Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) and Luke Roser (Bernardsville, N.J.) advanced to the semifinals of Flight "B". Lane and Roser defeated UConn's Mark Hosang Zac McEntee, 8-6, in the first round, and then topped Villanova's Chris Seitz and Ryan Peyton, 8-6, in the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, their run came to an end in the semifinals with a 9-7 loss to Kevin Budrawich and Justin Pagan of Sacred Heart.

In addition to Lane and Roser, three other tandems advanced to the quarterfinals of their respective flights. Senior Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) and sophomore Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) defeated Sacred Heart's Jeremy Shuskus Luka Bagi, 8-3, in Flight "A", while senior Chris Nelson (Scituate, Mass.) and junior Corey Morgenstern (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) knocked off Hartford's Marco Neves and Josh Isaacson, 8-6, in Flight "B". However in the next round both twosomes fell short and were eliminated from their brackets.

Freshman Alain Grullon (Santo Domingo, D.R.) also took part in the main draw doubles, pairing with Hofstra's Ryhaan Gill in the opening round. They defeated Bentley's Jimmy Rindo and Alex DeMuth, 9-8 (2), but saw their run come to an end with an 8-3 loss to Kevin Budrawich and Justin Pagan of SHU.

In consolation play, Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Fahoum Fahoum (Haifa, Israel) bounced back after an opening round loss with three straight wins to claim the Consolation "A" title. They defeated two pairs from Hartford and another twosome from Bentley.

The Bobcats returns to the court tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
