Five Bobcats Advance To Championship Matches At UConn Invitational

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. – Five members of the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team advanced to the championship match of their respective flights on Saturday afternoon, as the Bobcats fared very well in day two of the UConn Invitational. Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.), Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.), John Petrini (Stamford, Conn.) and Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) will all take the court tomorrow morning in the finals.

Barbero continued his impressive start in a Bobcats' uniform, taking down two more opponents in singles competition. He defeated Bryant's Zachary Morris, 6-3, 2-6 (10-5), in quarterfinals, and then BU's Josh Friedman, 7-6, 7-6 (10-7), in the semifinals. He will face Hartford's Jordan Badenko in the finals tomorrow morning.

Eric Ambrosio was the second player to advance, defeating Bryant's Max Vogt, 2-6, 6-4 (10-8), in the quarterfinals, and then UConn's Wei Lin, 7-5, 6-2, in the semifinals. He is set for a finals showdown with Jesse Frieder of Boston University tomorrow morning.

In Flight "C" singles, Garrett Lane advanced with victories of Sacred Heart and Bryant for a spot in the championship. He defeated SHU's Matt Dean, 6-3, 6-0, in the quarterfinals, and then topped Bryant's Arguello, 6-0, 6-1, in the semifinals. He will face UConn's Wayne Harrell tomorrow in the finals.

JC Petrini also fared well in his bracket, defeating Merrimack's Chris Toegemann, 6-1, 6-0, in the quarterfinals, and then Bryant's Guillaume Sabourin, in the semifinals. He will take on BU's Brandon Phan in the finals tomorrow.

Alex Lazerowich was the last Bobcat to advance, defeating two opponents for a trip to the finals. He topped Merrimack's Mark Mallory and SHU's John Lopresti, and will face UConn's Joshua Palmer tomorrow in the finals.

Fahoum Fahoum (Haifa, Israel) and Devon Jerome (Stamford, Conn.) each claimed victories in the quarterfinals, but fell short in the next round.

The UConn Invitational resumes tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
