STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Sophomore Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and senior Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) each partook in a finals match-up on Saturday afternoon, as the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team wrapped up the Stony Brook Invitational at the SB Tennis Courts in New York.
Barbero, a transfer from St. Peter's College, collected two victories yesterday and then made it three straight with a win in the semifinals. Barbero defeated Bowdoin's Luka Trinka in the morning session to advance to the Flight C finals. Unfortunately, Barbero couldn't keep the streak alive, falling to Tomasz Olfans of Concordia, 8-5.
Lazerowich fared well in the consolation bracket, as the Stratham, N.H. native advanced the championship match. In the finals, Lazerowich continued his strong play in the championship match, outlasting his opponent from Hamilton University to win the bracket.
Quinnipiac will take some time off to prepare for its next tournament, the UConn Invitational, set to begin on Friday, September 28. The three-day event will take place at the UConn Tennis Courts in Storrs.
