NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Men’s and Women’s Tennis Head Coach Mike Quitko was presented with an award at the New Haven Open on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the Connecticut Tennis Center on the campus of Yale University. Fellow Quinnipiac alumni, parents, faculty and student-athletes were in attendance for “Quinnipiac Night” in celebration of Coach Q’s career accomplishments.
The Banquet took place during the quarterfinals of the tournament. Quitko was invited down to center court and presented with a trophy by President John Lahey for his achievements in the sport of tennis. Quitko and Lahey were also joined by major sponsor affiliates and New Haven Open Regional competition winners.
The day consisted of four quarterfinal matches, including two of the world’s best players. #8 Caroline Wozniacki advanced to the semifinals with a victory, while #10 Marion Bartoli was upset in her showdown with Sara Errani.
Quitko, now just 15 wins shy of 500, and the Bobcats open the fall season on Friday, September 7 at the Stony Brook Invitational. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m.
