WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) concluded an illustrious senior season with career wins No. 126 and No. 127 on Saturday afternoon, but the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team was eliminated by #3 Monmouth University in the Northeast Conference Semifinals at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J. With the loss, the Bobcats finished the 2011-12 campaign with an overall record of 8-11. The Hawks advance to the finals of the championships, which will take place tomorrow morning.
Quinnipiac boasted a formidable start in this one, taking the doubles segment for the match's first point. Kwei and Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) defeated Freddy Marcinkowski and Francis Jedlinski, 8-5, in No. 1, while Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) and Chris Nelson (Scituate, Mass.) took care of business in No. 3. The twosome topped Carl Jedlinski and Jason Rothstein, 8-6, for the point.
In a rapid turn of events, Monmouth fared very well in the singles portion of the semifinal match-up. The Hawks snatched four of the six individuals, and earned the comeback victory to advance to the finals. For the Bobcats, Kwei collected the lone triumph, defeating Francis Jedlinski, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), in the No. 2 flight.
