WINTER PARK, Fla. – Sophomore Corey Morgenstern (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) earned the lone Bobcats point of the match, as the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team dropped its opening 2012 Spring Break match to Northern Illinois University, 6-1, at Azalea Lane in Winter Park, Fla.
With the loss, the Bobcats fell to 1-5 on the season, while the Huskies improved to 10-5 for the campaign.
Morgenstern mustered a point in singles' competition, wrestling a tally away from Maksym Lagutin in the No. 4 slot. Morgenstern battled back after dropping the first set with a 7-5 triumph in the second frame, and then proceeded to complete the comeback bid with a 10-8 finish in the tie-break.
Earlier in the match, juniors Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) and Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) handed the Huskies' No. 2 pairing an 8-4 loss. Weeden and Lane defeated Roman Turtygin and Maksym Lagutin, 8-4, in No. 2.
Quinnipiac is back in action with day two of its Spring Break trip in Florida. The Bobcats take on North Carolina Central in Kissimmee, Fla. at 11:30 a.m.
