HAMDEN, Conn. – Freshman Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) and John Petrini (Stamford, Conn.) of the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team were defeated in the final match of their respective flights on Sunday afternoon, as the Bobcats wrapped up a successful weekend on the Quinnipiac Outdoor Tennis Courts.

Head Coach Mike Quitko was extremely impressed with the way his freshman athletes performed. Quitko remarked, "Ambrosio and Petrini performed very well against a talented field of athletes. They both kept their composure when the matches were close and came up with key shots when needed. I'm very excited for what's in store for their careers at Quinnipiac University."

Ambrosio collected the Bobcats' first win of the afternoon, as he defeated Ryan Carr of Connecticut in straight sets (6-4, 6-4), advancing to the Flight C finals. In the championship match, Ambrosio won the first set but couldn't close out the match. In the tie-break, Jacob Spreyer of Connecticut came out on top and took the match (6-4, 6-7 (4-10)).

Petrini took the court shortly after Ambrosio's first match and outlasted his opponent in a vigorous, back and forth contest. He knocked off Bryant's Juan Gonzalez (6-7, 6-1 (10-6)) to advance to the finals of Flight B. In the championship match, he also took the first set but fell short in the second game. In the tie-break, Petrini was edged by Boston University's Emilio Teran, concluding a (6-4, 1-6 (8-10)) decision.

In other action, sophomore Corey Morgenstern (Old Bethpage, N.Y.)  was triumphant in the Flight B Singles' Consolation bracket. He defeated UCONN and Bryant in the quarters and semis, before knocking off Boston University in the finals. Teammate Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) also fared well in consolations, as the junior knocked off UCONN in the semifinals, before falling in the finals to Sacred Heart.

The men's tennis team returns to the court next weekend with the ITA Regionals at Cornell University. First serve of the three-day tournament is set for 9 a.m. on Thursday, October, 13.
