Men's Tennis Defeats Mount St. Mary's 4-0, In NEC Quarterfinals

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) and James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) earned double wins as the third-seeded Quinnipiac University men's tennis team defeated No. 6 Mount St. Mary's, 4-0, Friday afternoon in the Northeast Conference Tournament Quarterfinals at Mercer County Park. With the win, the Bobcats (7-12, 2-3 NEC) move on to the NEC Semifinals, where they'll meet second-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson for the second straight year. First serve is slated for Saturday after 11:30 a.m. The Mount ends its season at 7-12 (1-4 NEC).

Weeden and Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) defeated Matthew Blake and Taylor Place, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles, before Weeden beat Blake, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 1 singles. Mikkelson's No. 2 singles match was halted in the first set with the Bobcats' senior trailing 6-5 in the first set.

Kwei paired with Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) to defeat Mike Salomon and Mike Zabetakis, 8-2, at No. 2 doubles, before making quick work of Zabetakis, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. Lazerowich fell in the first set, 6-3, before leading Place, 4-2, in the second set when his match was halted.

Corey Morgenstern (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) also earned a 6-2, 6-0, victory over Andrew Marinucci at No. 6 singles for the Bobcats. Chris Nelson (Scituate, Mass.) led, 6-4, 5-3, against Patrick Plastow at No. 5 singles, when his match was halted.

In the only other Quinnipiac action of the day, Plastow and Marinucci defeated Micah Bailey (Miami, Fla.) and Dillon Kraus (Bayside, N.Y.) at No. 3 doubles, 8-4.
