FAIRFIELD, Conn. - James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) earned wins at both singles and doubles, but the Quinnipiac men's tennis team was defeated by intrastate Northeast Conference rival Sacred Heart, 5-2, Thursday afternoon on the SHU Tennis Courts. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 5-12 (0-3 NEC), while the Pioneers improve to 10-7 (4-2 NEC).
The Bobcats took the doubles points, winning at the top two flights. Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) and Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) defeated Kirill Kasyanov and Chadd Sullo, 8-4, at No. 1, while Kwei and Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) edged Chris Ujkic and Michael Syer, 8-6, at No. 2.
Kwei then earned a 6-3, 6-2, victory against Nick Mazzarese at No. 3 singles, but the Pioneers earned wins at the other five singles flights to earn the 5-2 victory.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday, when they travel to West Long Branch, N.J., to take on Monmouth. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
