Fairleigh Dickinson Edges Men's Tennis, 4-3

HAMDEN, Conn. - Sophomore Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) earned wins at both singles and doubles, but the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team was defeated by Fairleigh Dickinson, 4-3, Saturday afternoon on the Quinnipiac Outdoor Tennis Courts. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 5-10 (0-2 NEC), while the Knights improve to 6-10 (1-1 NEC).


The Bobcats won the doubles point with wins at the top two flights. Weeden paired with Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) to defeat Dominic Hemy and Ibrahim Shams, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles, while James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) and Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) defeated Mark Hemy and Marco Jemersic, 8-3, at No. 2.

Weeden put the Bobcats ahead, 2-0, with a 6-2, 6-0, victory at No. 2 singles against Dominic Hemy. But the Knights would win the next four points to clinch the match.

Corey Morgenstern pulled out the Bobcats' final point with a hard-fought three-set victory against Andrew Denny. The QU freshman won, 6-7 (7-9), 7-6 (14-12), 1-0 (10-4), at No. 6 singles.

The Bobcats return to action Sunday, when they play host to Stony Brook. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
