Hofstra Edges Men's Tennis, 4-3

HAMDEN, Conn. - Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) earned a double win, but the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team was edged by Hofstra, 4-3, Tuesday afternoon on the Quinnipiac Outdoor Tennis Courts. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 5-7, while the Pride improves to 4-8.

Weeden paired with Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) to defeat Adrien Bailly and Chris Damion, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles, before fighting past Antonio Pena, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1 singles.

The Pride took a pair of victories at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to take the doubles point. Quinnipiac won three of the first four singles flights to take a 3-2 lead in the match. In addition to Weeden's win, James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) defeated Chris Damion, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2 singles and Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) defeated Matt Gemmell, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, at No. 4.

But Hofstra took wins at Nos. 5 and 6 singles to earn the match victory.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday, when they welcome Northeast Conference foe Bryant to Hamden. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
