Conn. - Quinnipiac University sophomore men's tennis player Andrew
Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) and freshman Corey Morgenstern (Old
Bethpage, N.Y.) have been named the Northeast Conference Men's
Tennis Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league
office today announced. The award is the first of the year for both
players, and the second of Weeden's career. Weeden and Morgenstern
were both double winners as the Bobcats swept the University of
Hartford on Sunday.
Weeden, Morgenstern Honored With NEC Weekly Awards
Weeden won both of his top flight matches Sunday against Hartford. He paired with Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) to blank Aneil Bhalla and Josh Isaacson, 8-0, before taking care of Bhalla, 6-4, 6-0, in singles. He's now 20-15 on the year, including a 10-6 mark in singles.
Morgenstern paired with Chris Nelson (Scituate, Mass.) at No. 3 doubles to defeat Joel de los Santos and Filip Miletic, 8-2, before getting past Bogdan Nedelcu, 6-1, 7-5, at No. 5 singles.
The Bobcats return to action Friday, when they travel south on I-91 to take on Yale. First serve from the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.
