James Kwei Earns NEC Men's Tennis Player of the Month

HAMDEN. Conn. - Quinnipiac University men's tennis junior James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) has been named the Northeast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Month for February, the conference office has announced. Kwei, who was an all-NEC first team selection at No. 5 singles last year, has moved into the top half of the Bobcats' line-up and won two of his first three singles matches of spring season.

After dropping a tight match to Boston University's Jarred Pendleton in the spring season opener (Feb. 5), Kwei bounced back by beating Harvard's Davis Mangham at No. 3 singles in a third-set super tiebreaker, 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 (Feb. 11). Kwei was not in the singles lineup for the Bobcats' 7-0 team shutout of Fordham, but returned in triumphant fashion against Holy Cross (Feb. 27). Kwei held serve throughout his No. 2 singles win (6-0, 6-0) over the Crusaders' Chris Das.

Kwei also won his final two doubles matches of the month. Pairing with Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.), the duo defeated Fordham's Eli Plangger and Nick Kelly, 8-6, before cruising past Holy Cross' Chris Brosnan and Connor McCann, 8-2.

The Bobcats return to action Tuesday, when they travel to Providence, R.I., to take on Brown. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
