CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Quinnipiac University men's tennis team was defeated by nationally-ranked No. 73 Harvard, 6-1, Friday night at the Murr Center Tennis Courts. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 0-3 on the season, while the Crimson improves to 4-3.
James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) earned the Bobcats' lone point, defeating John Thornton, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8, at No. 3 singles. After Kwei took the first set, 6-3, Thornton bounced back to win the second, 6-3. With the team match already decided, Kwei outlasted Thornton, 10-8, in a 10-point tiebreaker.
The Bobcats kept the doubles portion of the match close, but the Quinnipiac No. 2 tandem of Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) and Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) fell to Will McNamee and Davis Mangham, 9-8. Quinnipiac's top doubles duo of Kwei and Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) was edged by Aba Omodele-Lucien and Thornton, 8-6.
The Bobcats return to action Sunday, when they play host to Fordham. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
