HAVEN, Conn. - Three Quinnipiac University men's tennis players
advanced to the singles Round of 16 at the Connecticut State
Championships, Friday at Yale's Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. James
Kwei (Dedham, Mass.), Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) and Brian
Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) each won a match in the Round of 32 to
advance to Saturday's Round of 16. Mikkelson and Weeden also paired
to advance to the doubles quarterfinals with a Round of 16
victory.
Three Men's Tennis Players Advance At Connecticut State Championships
Kwei defeated Sacred Heart's Cole Conrad, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8, in the Round of 32 to advance to Saturday's Round of 16, where he'll face Fairfield's R.J. Mirabile.
Weeden defeated UConn's Scott Warden, 4-6, 7-5, 10-8, in the Round of 32. Next up is Yale's Kyle Dawson in the Round of 16.
Mikkelson took down Sacred Heart's Nick Mazzarese, 6-2, 6-4, in the Round of 32, and will face Yale's Ryan Berman in the Round of 16.
Following a Round of 32 bye, Mikkelson and Weeden paired to defeat Fairfield's Dan Sauter and Reece Breault, 8-5, in the Round of 16. The duo will face Yale's Zachary Dean and Tommy Ratchford in the quarterfinals.
Connecticut State Championship action continues tomorrow at Yale's Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
