Men's Tennis Opens 2010-11 At Fairfield Doubles Festival

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - A pair of Quinnipiac duos made it to their respective flight semifinals as the Bobcats men's tennis team opened the 2010-11 campaign at the Fairfield Doubles Festival Saturday. Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) and James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) reached the Pool 1 Semifinals, while Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) and Brett Francis (Glastonbury, Conn.) made it to the Pool 2 Semifinals.

Mikkelson and Kwei went undefeated in round robin play, defeating Fairfield's Rob Ferrante and Dan Sauter, 8-5, UConn's Andrew Marcus and Dave Adams, 8-7 (3), and Hartford's Josh Isaacson and Aneil Bhalla, 8-2. The Bobcats' top duo then faced the St. Peter's pair of Chris Frakes and Robert Forai in the semifinals and fell, 8-7 (9).

Weeden and Francis went 2-1 in pool play. The duo defeated Igel and Huisman of St. Peter's, 8-2, as well as Hartford's Marco Neves and Eric Floum, 8-2. Weeden and Francis fell to UConn's Scott Warden and Teddy Margules, 8-4. In the semifinals, Weeden and Francis fell to Sacred Heart's Kirill Kasyanov and Nick Mazzarese, 8-3.

Also competing in the third flight were Dillon Kraus (Bayside, N.Y.) and Corey Morgenstern (Old Bethpage, N.Y.). The duo fell in a pair of matches to Sacred Heart and Queens, while earning an 8-4 victory over UConn's Matt Burns and Nic Visinski. Chris Nelson (Scituate, Mass.) and Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) took over in the Seventh Place Match, defeating Fairfield's R.J. Mirabile and Bjorn Merinder, 8-6.

The Bobcats return to action at the UConn Invitational, Sept. 24-26 in Storrs, Conn.
