Freshman Chris Nelson Earns NEC Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac freshman Chris Nelson (Scituate, Mass.) has been named Northeast Conference Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week after reaching the singles and doubles finals in his collegiate debut at the Quinnipiac Invitational.
Nelson reached the finals in both the D Singles and B Doubles. He defeated a pair of players from Fairfield to reach the D Singles Finals, before falling to teammate Dillon Kraus (Bayside, N.Y.) in the finals. Nelson also paired with fellow freshman Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, Mass.) to defeat doubles tandems from UConn and Sacred Heart before falling in the finals to UConn's Wei Lin and Matt Burns, 8-6.
Three Bobcats return to action Thursday and Friday at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships. James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) will play in Thursday's qualifying action, while Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) and John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.) commence play in the main draw on Friday at Dartmouth.
