Men's Tennis Advances To NEC Semifinals With 4-0 Win Against Mount St. Mary's

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.) and Charlie Feldman (Easton, Conn.) were both double winners as the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team defeated No. 6 Mount St. Mary's, 4-0, Friday afternoon in NEC Tournament Quarterfinal action at Mercer County Park. With the win, the Bobcats (9-6) advance to the semifinals, where they'll face second-seeded Sacred Heart.

Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) also picked up a singles victory for the Bobcats, while Tom Curran (Fairfield, Conn.) and Joe Nuara (Little Silver, N.J.) paired to earn a doubles win.

Hughes and Feldman paired to defeat Favio Osorio and Thad Mostowtt, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles. Hughes then beat Osorio, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while Feldman disposed of Sam Walton, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5.

Curran and Nuara paired to defeat Walton and Jaston Mostowtt, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles, while James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) and Mikkelson had their No. 1 doubles match halted while leading, 7-3.

Mikkelson beat Andrew Marinucci, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 2 singles and the remainder of the match was halted as the Bobcats clinched the 4-0 victory. The Bobcats were leading in each of the three halted singles matches.

The Bobcats and Pioneers square off at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The Pioneers took the prior contest with the Bobcats this season, 4-3, on April 2 in Fairfield.
