Men's Tennis Falls At Sacred Heart, 4-3

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) earned a double win, but the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team was defeated by Sacred Heart, 4-3, in a Northeast Conference match Thursday. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 6-5 (1-1 NEC), while the Pioneers improve to 10-3 (3-0 NEC). James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.), Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.), Tom Curran (Fairfield, Conn.) and Joe Nuara (Little Silver, N.J.) also earned wins for Quinnipiac.

The match came down to a third-set tie-breaker between Sacred Heart's Nick Mazzarese and Kwei at No. 4 singles. Mazzarese pulled out a 7-3 victory in the tie-breaker to give the match to the Pioneers.

Mikkelson paired with Kwei to defeat Adam Gart and Chris Ujkic, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles. Mikkelson then defeated Ujkic in three sets at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

Lane defeated Gart in a third-set tie-breaker at No. 3 singles. After dropping the first set, 6-4, he rebounded with a 6-4 win in the second before taking the third set, 7-6 (7-3).

Curran and Nuara paired at No. 3 doubles to beat Mazzarese and Mike Syer, 8-4.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday, when they travel to Hackensack, N.J., to take on NEC foe Fairleigh Dickinson. Matches are slated to begin at noon.
