HAMDEN, Conn. Quinnipiac University freshmen tennis players Natalie Duckor (North Tustin, Calif.) and Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) were both named Northeast Conference Player of the Week, the league office today announced. Duckor went 3-0 in singles last week, while Lane remained unbeaten in the spring season, winning his eighth straight match.
The award is Lane's second consecutive and second overall, while Duckor's honor is the first of her young career.
Duckor went undefeated at No. 3 singles in the Bobcats' 2-1 week, including an impressive win against Army's Sarah Giles-Madden, 7-6, 6-2. The win against Giles-Madden accounted for the Bobcats only point against the Black Knights. Duckor also defeated Colgate's Erin Fenn and Marist's Mirelva Colon, both by scores of 6-0, 6-2. For the season, Duckor is 20-21, including a 13-10 mark in singles.
Lane remained unbeaten in the spring with a 6-0, 6-3, win against Hartford's Aneil Bhalla at No. 3 singles. For the season, Lane is 22-8 overall. He's 9-3 in singles, including a 5-0 mark in dual matches. Of his three singles losses, two took three sets, while the other was shortened to one set due to rain.
The Bobcats return to action Wednesday, when they travel to Baltimore, Md., to take on the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. Matches are slated to begin at 2 p.m.
