Men's Tennis Defeats Bryant, 5-2

HAMDEN, Conn. – John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.), Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.), Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) and James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) all earned double wins as the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team defeated Bryant, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at Quinnipiac Indoor Tennis Courts. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 2-4.

Tom Curran (Fairfield, Conn.) and Charlie Feldman (Easton, Conn.) also won once each for the Bobcats.

Hughes paired with Feldman to take a No. 2 doubles victory against Kevin Gardiner and Tom Nowak, 8-2, before defeating Cristian Balestrieri, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 singles.

Mikkelson combined with Kwei to defeat Balestrieri and Dylan Whiting, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles. Mikkelson also beat Gardiner, 7-6 (5), 6-0, at No. 2 singles, while Kwei defeated Jose Rodriguez, 6-3, 6-2, to give the Bobcats the decisive fourth point.

Lane paired with Curran to edge Rodriguez and Nicholai Hill, 8-7 (3), at No. 3 doubles, before taking a three-set victory against Whiting, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 3 singles.

The Bobcats return to action Sunday, Mar. 8, when they play host to intrastate foe Hartford. Matches are scheduled to begin at noon.
