HAMDEN, Conn. Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.), Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.), James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) and Thomas Curran all earned double wins as the Quinnipiac men's tennis team swept Hofstra, 7-0, Saturday on the Quinnipiac Indoor Tennis Courts. With the win, the Bobcats even their record at 1-1, while the Pride falls to 3-3-1 on the season.
John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.), Charlie Feldman (Easton, Conn.), Joe Nuara (Little Silver, N.J.) and Dillon Kraus (Bayside, N.Y.) each earned one win for the Bobcats.
Mikkelson paired with Kwei to take a No. 1 doubles victory against Stian Tvedt and Tytus Stempniewicz, 9-8, before defeating Tvedt, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6, at No. 2 singles. Kwei also won at No. 4 singles, defeating Matt Wacks, 7-5, 6-2.
Lane and Curran combined to edge Wacks and Nenad Radakovic, 9-8, at No. 2 doubles. Lane beat Stempniewicz, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3 singles, while Curran beat Eric Gladstone, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 6.
Hughes earned a 6-2, 6-2, win at No. 1 singles against Radakovic, while Feldman took down Alex Hosner, 4-6, 7-5, 10-6, at No. 5.
Nuara and Kraus rounded out the Quinnipiac winners with a 6-2 win against Hosner and Gladstone at No. 3 doubles.
The Bobcats return to action Sunday, when they travel to Boston University. Matches are set to begin at 3 p.m.
