HAMDEN, Conn. Quinnipiac University Men's and Women's Tennis Head Coach Mike Quitko has announced Nicole Adams (New Windsor, N.Y.) as women's team captain, as well as Tom Curran (Fairfield, Conn.) and Joe Nuara (Little Silver, N.J.) as men's team captains for the 2009 season.
"The job of a captain is not just ceremonial on my courts," said Quitko. "It's somebody who leads by example and acts as the first line of management between the team and the coach. These three, although different from each other, all possess the ability to lead their squads to a championship."
Adams is the 2008 Northeast Conference Scholar-Athlete Award recipient. The award is presented annually to one student-athlete from each sport who has completed a minimum of 60 semester hours, maintained at least a 3.20 grade-point average and performed with distinction as a member of a varsity team. Adams, who carries a 3.85 GPA, was also named Second-Team All-NEC last season after compiling 20 wins.
Curran is a two-time All-NEC pick, earning first-team recognition as a freshman and second-team honors as a sophomore. In his time at Quinnipiac, Curran has won 74 matches. Nuara had a breakthrough junior season, earning First-Team All-NEC recognition. A 53-match winner heading into the spring portion of the 2008-09 schedule, Nuara won 19 matches as a junior. He's also performed in the classroom, being named an NEC Scholar-Athlete last season.
