LEWISBURG, Pa. Quinnipiac junior men's tennis players John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.) and Charlie Feldman (Easton, Conn.) won two championships apiece at this weekend's Bucknell Invitational. In all, the Bobcats earned seven championships, going 27-9 with a 19-5 singles record and an 8-4 mark in doubles. Hughes and Feldman paired to win the top doubles flight, while Hughes also earned the No. 1 singles championship. Feldman earned his singles title at No. 7.
Freshmen Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) and James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) and seniors Vinny Corvari (East Haven, Conn.) and Tom Curran (Fairfield, Conn.) each earned singles titles. Lane won at No. 2, while Kwei took the No. 3 title. Curran earned the No. 4 championship, while Corvari rounded out the Bobcats' titles with three wins at No. 8.
Hughes beat Bucknell's Ryan Sandburg, UConn's Joe Goldstein and Wilkes' Jeremy Nolt en route to his singles title. Feldman defeated UConn's Matthew Burns, Wilkes' Brian Fanelli and Bucknell's Jamie Watson. The duo began their march to the No. 1 doubles championship by earning a win by default from Bucknell's Sandburg and Jonathan Brenner. Feldman and Hughes then beat Wilkes' Chris Cozzillio and Kyle Ungvarsky, 6-1, and UConn's Goldstein and Ben Schueler, 6-3.
Lane and Curran earned their championships with three wins apiece against competition from Bucknell, Wilkes and UConn, while Kwei and Corvari each went 2-1 and held the tie-breaker.
The Bobcats return to action Friday, when they play host to the Quinnipiac Invitational.
