James Kwei Named NEC Men's Tennis Player of the Week

HAMDEN, Conn. – Freshman James Kwei has been named the Northeast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office today announced. Kwei won five matches at this past weekend's UConn Invitational, reaching the quarterfinals of the Flight B singles draw while pairing with fellow freshman Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) to earn runner-up status in the top doubles flight.

Kwei defeated Boston University's Miron Nissim and Marist's Marcus von Nordheim in one-set singles matches, shortened due to weather. Kwei and Lane advanced to the Flight A doubles finals with wins against tandems from intrastate foes Hartford, Connecticut and Sacred Heart. The duo eventually fell in the championship to Loic Sessagesimi and Matt Himmelsbach from defending MAAC champion Marist.

Through just two tournaments in his young career, Kwei has posted a 9-3 record. The Bobcats return to action Friday, when they travel to Lewisburg, Pa., to take part in the Bucknell Quads.
