HAMDEN, Conn. – Junior goalkeeper Borja Angoitia (Bilbao, Spain) earned recognition on a national front for his stellar performance in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament, and was named to the College Soccer News National Team Of The Week. Angoitia and the Bobcats advanced to the NCAA Division I Tournament for the first time in program history.
Angoitia was outstanding in goal helping Quinnipiac advance past Iona and Monmouth in penalty kicks to claim their first ever MAAC Championship to punch their first ever ticket to the NCAA Tournament. Angoitia had six saves in the match with Iona and five saves in the contest with Monmouth. In both matches he made a crucial stop in the penalty kick shootout and also converted a penalty kick in each shootout himself.
Angoitia posted a record of 7-4-7 and was 17th in the country with a .698 goals against average. He set a new program record with 10 shutouts and finished second in QU single-season history with his GAA and tied for sixth with a .843 save percentage. Angoitia is second in career GAA, wins and shutouts.
