Men’s Soccer Signs James Doig for 2013 Season

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac men's soccer head coach Eric Da Costa has added another name to the Bobcats' 2013 roster, as James Doig (Liverpool, England) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend QU this fall. Doig has international experience with several clubs and will make an immediate impact for the Bobcats in their inaugural season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).

James Doig – Midfield – Liverpool, England – St. Francis Xavier College

The Liverpool, England native brings a wealth of playing experience with him to Quinnipiac. Doig played for the Liverpool Schoolboys, a squad that competed nationally all over England, and then served as the team captain of St. Francis Xavier Senior School. After that, Doig enjoyed stints with the Tranmere Rovers and Accrington Stanley football clubs. During that time, he also represented England in the Danone Nation's Cup in Lyon, France – an international tournament for elite players.

"James will be an excellent complement to our current collection of players," said Da Costa. "He is a versatile player with both the ability to be extremely skillful and the presence of mind to play simple. His skill set should put him in a position to compete for a role in our midfield. James has a very good background and has been around some excellent coaches. I look forward to his arrival and we will help him make a quick and smooth transition into the squad."

In addition, Doig has spent time at Everton FC and Blackburn Rovers FC, two distinguished clubs in England. He has also played in Spain, Germany and Holland as well, while working with many renowned coaches. The list includes Asa Heartford (Scotland & Manchester City), Warren Joyce (Current Manchester United Reserve coach), John Scales (Liverpool and England), Phil Hackney (Accrington and England Coach), John Achtenberg (Curren Liverpool Coach), Howard Gayle (Liverpool FC) and many others.

The Bobcats claimed their first Northeast Conference Regular Season Title in program history at the strength of an 8-1-1 mark in league play last year. Quinnipiac made five trips to the NEC Tournament – nearly capturing its first NCAA Tournament berth back in 2009.

Quinnipiac opens its 2013 campaign on Friday, August 30 at Providence College. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Glay Field.
