Suprise, McLarney Named To NSCAA All-North Atlantic Region Team; Candidates In MLS SuperDraft
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University men's soccer seniors Philip Suprise (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Robbie McLarney (Londonderry, N.H.) were recently tabbed to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-North Atlantic Region Team, announced Monday, December 10, 2012 by coaches around the area. Suprise and McLarney were two crucial components of the Bobcats team this past season and largely responsible for the program's first Northeast Conference Regular-Season title.
In addition to their All-Region selection, Suprise and McLarney are candidates in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. The 2013 MLS SuperDraft will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2012 in Indianapolis. The draft will also be held in conjunction with the National Soccer Coaches of America convention for the ninth straight year.
The MLS Player Combine will take place from Thursday, January 11 and run through the weekend in Ft. Lauderdale, The combine is open to the public with tickets available for $10 apiece. The SuperDraft will be the following week and consists of two rounds for a total of 38 picks. The Supplemental Draft will be held on Tuesday, January 22, lasting four rounds and taking place over a conference call.
Suprise wrapped up a stellar four-year career and was named to the NSCAA All-North Atlantic First Team. Suprise finished with nine goals and two assists for a team-best 20 points on the season. Suprise ranked amongst the conference leaders in several categories, including goals, goals per game, points, and points per game.
Surprise also earned his second trip to the NEC First-Team and fourth career conference accolade. His goal against the Red Flash NEC Tournament served as his 26th career goal for the Bobcats. With the tally, he finished his career in eighth place all-time in goals (26), ninth place all-time in points (61), and was one assist shy of cracking top 15 all-time. Suprise's 26 goals are third most since Quinnipiac joined the NCAA's top division.
McLarney was only with the Bobcats for one season, but made an immediate impact en route to All-North Atlantic Third Team honors. He anchored a formidable midfield this year, leading the conference with seven assists to go along with four goals for a total of 15 points. McLarney's seven helpers in a season ranks him in a tie for ninth place all-time in Quinnipiac history.
Prior to Quinnipiac, McLarney enjoyed a three-year stint at Rutgers and red-shirted his senior year. Between the two schools, he scored six goals and totaled 11 assists for 23 career points. McLarney was also tabbed to the 2012 Northeast Conference Second Team.
