Men's Soccer Announces 2012 Schedule
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University Men's Soccer Head Coach Eric Da Costa has announced the 2012 schedule that the squad will endure in its quest for the Northeast Conference title. The Bobcats will take on 17 different opponents throughout the season with just over half of them taking place at the QU Soccer Field. Quinnipiac partakes in seven non-conference games before engaging in NEC competition in late September.
"We have again put together a very competitive non-conference schedule to complement our always competitive league slate," said Coach Da Costa. "We're eager for the season to begin and I look forward to watching our team take steps towards getting back to the NEC Conference final again."
Quinnipiac's challenging non-conference schedule begins with 2011 ACC Finalist and NCAA Tournament contender, Boston College. The nationally ranked Eagles come to Hamden on Friday, Aug. 24 for an afternoon affair at the QU Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
The Bobcats will enjoy six days off before their first true road contest. On Thursday, Aug. 30, QU heads to Worcester, Mass. for a showdown under the lights with Holy Cross. Quinnipiac will then have just three days to prepare for its next match, as the Navy and Gold welcome Lafayette to campus on Sunday, Sept. 2 for a 1 p.m. start.
Quinnipiac concludes its non-conference schedule with four games over the next two weeks. On Saturday, Sept. 8, the Bobcats take on a talented club from Loyola in Maryland. The Greyhounds clinched third place in the 2011 MAAC standings and made its 24th straight appearance to the tournament. The Bobcats prepare for New Haven County rival Yale after that, matching up with the Bulldogs on Friday, Sept. 14 at the QU Soccer Field. Quinnipiac wraps up its non-conference road schedule at Hartford on Wednesday, Sept. 19 (7 p.m.) and then concludes out-of-conference play on Saturday, Sept. 22. The Bobcats play host to Vermont on Alumni Day at the University. The Brian Vincent Memorial Alumni Game is set for 10 a.m. followed by a regional contest against Vermont at 2 p.m.
The last weekend in September marks the first NEC competition of the year when the Bobcats are slated for a home-and-away series. Quinnipiac hosts 2011 NEC Champion Monmouth on Friday, Sept. 28 at 3:30 p.m., before traveling to St. Francis (N.Y.) on Sunday, Sept. 30 for a 3 p.m. kickoff. The Q then welcomes intrastate rival and 2011 regular-season champions Sacred Heart to Hamden on Friday, Oct. 5, prior to making a trip back to New York for a 1 p.m. tilt with LIU Brooklyn on Sunday, Oct. 7.
The Bobcats will enjoy some time off as the schedule lightens through the heart of October. Quinnipiac travels to Bryant on Sunday, Oct. 14 for a 3 p.m. start in Smithfield, R.I. and then takes on Mount St. Mary's a week later on Sunday, Oct. 21 for an afternoon affair at the QU Soccer Field. After a travel weekend to Saint Francis (Pa.) on Friday, Oct. 26 and Robert Morris on Sunday, Oct. 28, Quinnipiac returns home for its final two regular-season games. The Bobcats host Central Connecticut on Friday, November 2 at 2 p.m. and then celebrates Senior Day on Sunday, Nov. 4 prior to a 1 p.m. tilt with Fairleigh Dickinson.
The Northeast Conference Tournament will take place on the second weekend in November. The top four teams will complete for the title, beginning with the Semifinals on Friday, Nov. 9 at the highest seed. A champion will be crowned on Sunday afternoon.
