HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac men’s soccer freshman forward Ola Ogunjobi (London, England) was named Northeast Conference Men’s Soccer Player and Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday, Sept. 19.
Ogunjobi had a breakout performance on Wednesday, Sept. 14 against Hartford, scoring his first three goals of the season, including the game-winner with just over a minute remaining in regulation, to give Quinnipiac the 4-3 victory. All three goals came in the second half for the freshman, who netted his first goal just two minutes into the second half off a corner kick.
After falling behind, 3-2, Ogunjobi provided the spark for the Bobcats with his second score of the contest in the 61st minute of play, driving a bouncing ball at the top of the goalkeepers box into the back of the net. His third score came at the 88:57 mark, as his right-footed strike curved into the side netting, setting off Quinnipiac’s first victory celebration of the season.
The hat trick for Ogunjobi was the first for the Bobcats this season, and the first since Philip Suprise (Milwaukee, Wisc.) accomplished the feat on October 9, 2009 against Bryant.
The Bobcats return to action on Saturday, Sept. 24 when they host Loyola (Md.) at 2 p.m. at Quinnipiac Soccer Field.
