HAMDEN, Conn. – Former Quinnipiac men’s soccer standout Graciano Brito ’09 has signed with the Rochester Rhinos of the United Soccer Leagues (USL) for the upcoming 2012 season, as announced by the team on Thursday, Feb. 2. Brito moves from rival USL PRO team FC New York, where he experienced a solid season for the club, tallying four goals in just 12 games.
During the 2011 season, Brito was a one-time USL PRO Player of the Week recipient and was twice named to the USL PRO Team of the Week. He was awarded Player of the Week during the week of June 1, after he buried both goals for FC New York in its 2-2 tie against the Richmond Knickers. At the time, the striker was tied for third among the league’s goal leaders (with four), while his eight points had him tied for sixth overall. Despite a truncated season due to injury, Brito still finished second on the squad in goals and third on the team in total points.
Brito joins one of the premier squads in the league, as Rochester finished as the National Division regular season champion with a 12-8-4 overall record. The Rhinos ended their season with a defeat against the Harrisburg City Islanders, 2-1, on Friday, Aug. 26, eliminating them for a chance to play in the USL PRO Championship Game the following Saturday evening.
The move to Rochester marks Brito’s third professional contract since his graduation from Quinnipiac in 2009, where he remains the program’s Division I all-time leader in goals (40) and points (92). Brito signed his first professional contract with Operario dos Acores in the Portuguese Second Division for the 2009-2010 season, before returning to the United States to play for the expansion FC New York squad in 2011.
