Scouting Monmouth
The Hawks come into Quinnipiac as the 10th ranked team in the
NSCAA/HendrickCars.com National Rankings. Monmouth dropped from its
previous week's ranking of fourth after a 2-0 loss to Loyola
University on Sept. 25. The Hawks are led by senior midfielder Ryan
Kinne, who has five goals and three assists on the season. Coming
off the bench for Monmouth is freshman forward Jacob Rubinstein,
who is second on the team in goals (3) and points (7). Junior
midfielders Max Hamilton and Cesar Blacido, as well as sophomore
midfielder Ryan Clark, control the middle of the pitch for the
Hawks. Monmouth senior goalkeeper Bryan Meredith has allowed five
goals all year, posting a .70 goals-against average and a .839 save
percentage.
All-Time Against The Hawks
Friday's Northeast Conference game will be the 13th time the two
squads have faced each other. Quinnipiac is 3-8-1 all time against
Monmouth. The last meeting between the two schools was on Nov. 15,
2009 in the NEC Championship game. Monmouth's two goals early in
the second half were too much for Quinnipiac to overcome, as the
2-1 final went in Monmouth's favor.
Scouting Mount St. Mary's
The Mountaineers come into Quinnipiac in the midst of a three game
losing streak. In its last contest, Mount St. Mary's was defeated
by Cal State Bakersfield, 3-2, in an overtime match. The loss was
the second overtime defeat for the Mountaineers this season. Junior
forward Chris Wheeler leads the pack with eight goals on the year.
Senior Eric Detzel is the focal point of the midfield, as he has
collected five assists to go along with one goal on the season.
Senior midfielder Will Thomas is third on the team in both goals
(2) and points (5). The goalkeeping situation for the Mountaineers
is one for concern, as neither Chris Davis nor Peter Steve has
claimed ownership in net. Davis' relatively low save percentage of
.556 narrowly beats Steve's save percentage of .500. Davis also
holds a 1.97 goals-against average compared to Steve's 2.90
goals-against average.
All-Time Against The Mountaineers
Sunday's NEC Conference game will be the 12th time the two teams
have faced each other. Quinnipiac is 3-7-1 all time against the
Mountaineers. The last meeting between the two came on Oct. 30,
2009 in which Mount St. Mary's earned the victory, 4-3, in an
overtime thriller.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac was defeated by Stony Brook University, 3-2, on Sunday,
Sept. 26 at Kenneth P. Lavalle Stadium in Stony Brook, N.Y.
Quinnipiac took an early 2-0 lead in the first half, but a
relentless Seawolves squad registered three unanswered goals, two
in the second half, to emerge with the victory.
Rothbart Steps Up
Junior defender Matthew
Rothbart (Cheshire, Conn.) recorded his first two career goals
against Stony Brook on Sunday, Sept. 26. Rothbart now leads the
team in goals and points (4), as the scores were the second and
third goals for the Bobcats this season.
Silva Distributes
Senior forward Fabricio
Silva (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) registered his first assist of
the season on Sept. 26 against Stony Brook. After missing the
entire 2009 season due to injury, the assist was Silva's first
point since an assist against St. Francis College on Oct. 12,
2008.
Road Tests
Quinnipiac plays its next three games on the road, all against
fellow NEC opponents. The Bobcats will first travel to DeGol Field
in Loretto, Pa. to face Saint Francis (Pa.) University on Friday,
Oct. 8 at 3:30 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. Quinnipiac faces
