HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac men's soccer team was defeated by the 12thranked Boston College Eagles, 1-0, in a non-conference matchup at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field. Quinnipiac now stands at 0-1.
BC's junior Connor Fitzpatrick (Coventry, Conn.) scored off a penalty kick in the 89thminute of play to give the Eagles the victory as they improve to 2-0 on the year. After 45 minutes of play, the teams went into the locker room scoreless. Quinnipiac dominated most of the first half possession, with a scoring opportunity off a corner kick in the 37thminute. Neither squad was able to find the back of the net, as both defenses played a solid half.
The second half was as equally competitive as the first, as both teams had several scoring opportunities. Sophomore goalkeeper George Ellis (Greatham, England) corralled a header in the 56thminute to preserve the scoreless tie. Ellis finished the contest with four saves overall.
The Bobcats best scoring opportunity came on a free kick taken by senior Pierre Soubrier (Aurignac, France) in the 60thminute of play. His shot, taken from just outside the top of the box, bent around the five-man wall and struck the goal frame where the crossbar and post meet.
The Bobcats return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 7 when they travel to West Hartford, Conn. to face Hartford University.
