Moving On Up
After the 2-1 win against Vermont, the Bobcats moved up another spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Regional Rankings this week to fourth in the North Atlantic Region. This is the third week this season that Quinnipiac has been ranked. Starting at seventh, the Bobcats have jumped to fifth and now fourth in the past two weeks.
Against Vermont senior midfielder Kevin Nunes (Hillsborough, N.J.) picked up an assist in the second half and followed that with his first-career goal just four minutes later. His goal proved to be the game winner as the Bobcats held off a late surge for the team's first home victory of 2009.
Let's Make It A Double
Junior forward Nick Pelicaen (Schoten, Belgium) also picked up a goal and an assist against the Catamounts. He opened the scoring in the 56th minute on a pass from Nunes before putting a quick strike into the back of the net. Four minutes later he returned the favor, assisting on Nunes' first goal.
Sixth In Division I
Senior goalkeeper Freddy Hall (St. George, Bermuda) continues to shine this season. After turning aside five Vermont shots, he ranks sixth in the nation with a .907 save percentage. Playing all 710 minutes in goal for the Bobcats, his save percentage has the team ranking second in the category nationally.
Senior captain Shane Recklet (Shelton, Conn.) will be back in the lineup this weekend for the Bobcats after missing the last two games. Recklet is one of the Bobcats' top defenders and will join a defensive core that ranks second in the NEC in goals allowed and shutouts this season.
Quinnipiac has not defeated Robert Morris since earning a 5-1 victory in Moon Township, Pa., during the 2000 season. The Bobcats are 1-4-5 all-time against the Colonials and are winless at home, 0-3-2.
