Hamden, Conn. - Quinnipiac Soccer Field
The Quinnipiac University men's soccer team begins a six-game homestand Saturday, Sept. 19 against the Iona Gaels. The Bobcats enter the game on a two-game win streak after defeating Army, 1-0, Sept. 16 at West Point. Quinnipiac remains undefeated this season at 2-0-2 after the victory and has allowed just one goal in four games in 2009.
Scouting the Gaels
Iona comes to Hamden having not scored a goal in its last two games. In the first of those contests, the Gaels lost their first game of the season, 2-0, to Rhode Island on Sept. 11. In the team's next game, it played to a scoreless draw with UConn on Sept. 13. Iona began the season with three-straight wins. Opening with a 1-0 win against New Hampshire, the Gaels then defeated Georgia Southern, 2-0, and North Florida, 3-2, at the University of Central Florida Classic. Iona is led by Giovanni Destasio and Fernando Liserra with four points each in 2009.

Movin' Up the Charts
Senior goalkeeper Freddy Hall (St. George, Bermuda) ranked eighth nationally in save percentage coming into the game at Army with a .944 mark. After posting his third-straight shutout, Hall now boasts a .963 save percentage, while also ranking in the top 20 in Division I with a goals-against average of 0.22.
Yet Another First
For the second game in a row, a member of the Bobcats scored his first-career collegiate goal. Quinnipiac's lone tally came from redshirt-freshman Brett Uttley (Jamestown, R.I.) in the 57th minute of play from 40 yards out. Uttley's first goal with the Bobcats proved to the game winner as he handcuffed Army's goalkeeper and found the back of the net.
One More Down
With a loss by Central Connecticut, Quinnipiac and Monmouth are the only two teams in the Northeast Conference without a defeat this season. Monmouth is 5-0 this year and is the 19th-ranked team in the nation. The Bobcats will travel to West Long Branch, N.J., to take on the Hawks on Sunday, Nov. 1.
Quinnipiac and Iona met last season in New Rochelle, N.Y., in the season opener for both teams. On the strength of three second-half goals, including the game-winner from Shane Recklet (Shelton, Conn.), the Bobcats defeated the Gaels, 3-0. Saturday's game marks just the third meeting ever between the two teams with each winning one game apiece.
