Men's Soccer Travels To NJIT On Saturday, Sept. 12
NJIT Highlanders (1-3-0)
Saturday, September 12, 2009 - 7:30 p.m.
Lubetkin Field - Newark, N.J.
Saturday's
Game
The
Quinnipiac University men's soccer team seeks its first win of the
season on Saturday, Sept. 12 as it travels to Newark, N.J., to take
on NJIT. The Bobcats begin the season with a 0-0-2 record after
tying No. 18 Loyola (Md.) Monday afternoon in the team's home
opener. The 0-0 deadlock marked the first time the Bobcats had tied
consecutive games since 2006 when it played to three straight ties.
NJIT enters the game with a 1-3 overall record.
Scouting
NJIT
The
Highlanders host the Bobcats in the final game of their three-game
homestand. In NJIT's most recent contest, it knocked off
regionally-ranked Manhattan, 4-1, on Wednesday night. Rahim Stennet
scored a pair of first-half goals, while Chico Lugo and Erik
Magnusson each tallied goals in the final 45 minutes of play.
Stennett leads the team this season with four goals and eight
points with Gustav Warfving posting a team-best three assists. The
Highlanders lost their first three games to Army, Monmouth and
Lafayette all by the score of 2-1.
No Line
On The Horizon
The
Bobcats' 0-0 tie with the Greyhounds on Monday was the second
scoreless draw in the last two years. In the team's second-to-last
home game of the 2008 season, Quinnipiac played to a 0-0 tie with
Northeast Conference opponent Monmouth on Nov. 7.
All That
You Can't Leave Behind
Freshman
Philip Suprise (Milwaukee, Wis.) nearly gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead
early in the first half against the Greyhounds. Sophomore Durval
Pereira (Cheshire, Conn.) followed Surprise's attempt with a shot
in the identical location. Both shots missed the far left post,
marking the second game in a row that both missed on key scoring
opportunities in the first half.
Clean
Slate
Senior
goalkeeper Freddy Hall (St. George, Bermuda) recorded his first
shutout of the season in the tie with Loyola. Last season, Hall
recorded seven clean sheets en route to earning All-NEC Second Team
honors.
Same
Play, Same Result
Against
Yale, Quinnipiac junior forward Dwayne Mars (St. Michael, Barbados)
received a through pass and broke in on goal, hitting the post in
overtime. Junior forward Dominic Adams (John Dial, Trinidad and
Tobago) used the same play to brake in on goal against Loyola in
the waning seconds of the second overtime, but was unable to get a
clear look at the goal, sending his shot just wide.
Last
Meeting
These two
teams met last season in Hamden in the Bobcats' home opener. On the
strength of three second-half goals, Quinnipiac improved to 2-0 on
the season with the 4-0 victory. That game marked the first-ever
meeting between the Bobcats and Highlanders.
