HAMDEN, Conn. Senior forward Graciano Brito (Sao Nicolau, Cape Verde) was named the Brine/Northeast Conference Co-Player of the Week the conference office today announced. This is the second consecutive week and fourth time this season that Brito has been honored by the NEC. His two goals, including the game winner, against Mount St. Mary's Sunday afternoon helped the Bobcats to a 3-0 win and a berth in the NEC Tournament for the first time since 2004.
Brito's first goal of the game was his 17th of the season, tying the program's Division I record set by Everson Maciel in 2001. He collected a pass from Johan Karlhagen (Gothenburg, Sweden) and broke in on goal, sliding the ball past the Mountaineer goalkeeper into the left corner.
With just under nine minutes remaining in the game, Brito scored his record-breaking 18th goal of the season. Shane Recklet (Shelton, Conn.) passed the ball up the left sideline to a streaking Brito who made at move at the top of the 18-yard around a defender. His shot off the inside of the far post and into the net gave the Bobcats a 3-0 lead and Brito his 39th point of the season. The 39 points this season are also a single-season program Division I record, eclipsing Maciel's 38 in 2001.
