HAMDEN, Conn. – For the second time this season, junior Gill Conners (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) of the Quinnipiac University men's lacrosse team was named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced on Monday, March 11, 2013. Conners has been one of the nation's best goalies this season and an instrumental piece to Quinnipiac's success.
Conners helped the Bobcats stay perfect on the season, at 3-0, thanks to a 14-save outing at Vermont, a 10-6 decision in favor of Quinnipiac. After stopping two shots in the first quarter, he made six in the second and three apiece in the third and fourth stanzas. Conners is fourth in the nation and leads the NEC in save percentage (.641) and also ranks first in the league in goals against average (7.67).
Conners and the Quinnipiac defense rank ninth in the nation in scoring defense with its 7.67 goals against average. Conners also has 13 groundballs which is good enough for second on the team.
The Bobcats will look for their fourth win of the season tomorrow, Tuesday, March 12, against Providence College. Faceoff is set for 3 p.m. at the QU Lacrosse Turf Field on Mount Carmel Campus in Hamden.
