Men’s Lacrosse Ready For Challenging 2013 Schedule

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University men's lacrosse team released its 2013 schedule, which includes 13 regular season games, head coach Eric Fekete announced on Wednesday, February 6, 2013. With five home games and eight road contests, the Bobcats slate is highlighted by three instate clashes and an NEC showdown against nationally ranked Bryant. QU's Northeast Conference games are split between two home games and three on the road.

Now in his 12th season at the helm, Fekete was pleased with the Bobcats' fall season effort and growth. He sees the spring schedule as a challenge, but is optimistic that his team can return to the Northeast Conference Championship for a second time.

Five of the 13 match-ups will be at the Quinnipiac University Turf Field, home of the men's lacrosse program. Over the last five seasons, more than half of the Bobcats wins have come on Mount Carmel Campus – with a season-best five wins in 2008 (5-1).

The opening game will feature a neighboring state rivalry as the Bobcats travel to Brown University on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. Last season, Brown edged Quinnipiac, 12-7, in the season-opener for both teams in Hamden. The Bears would go on to qualify for the Ivy League Tournament, but saw their season end with a loss to Princeton in the semifinals.

The month of March holds the bulk of the Bobcats schedule with seven games - five of which will be played on the road. Quinnipiac opens the month at Detroit Mercy, the former team of first-year assistant coach Bill Tully, on March 2nd with an 11 a.m. tilt in Michigan. Quinnipiac gears up for another lengthy trip a week later, when the Bobcats head to Baltimore, Md. for a non-conference clash with Vermont. The Bobcats' lone neutral site game with be played at Calvert Hall School at 1 p.m.

Just three days later, the Bobcats return for two straight home games – including their home-opener against Providence on Tuesday, March 12th. Quinnipiac is 4-1 against the Friars in their last five meetings and will host the BIG EAST foe at 3 p.m. Later in the week, the Bobcats play host to intrastate rival Hartford on Saturday (March 16) with all the action set for 12 p.m. Quinnipiac then hits the road to conclude non-conference play in March, taking on Fairfield (March 19) under the lights in Fairfield and Binghamton (March 23) at 1 p.m. in New York.

Northeast Conference action will be next for the Bobcats, as QU opens competition with a rematch of the 2012 NEC Semifinals. The squad squares off against Bryant on Saturday, March 30th in Smithfield, R.I. – a team that was ranked No. 20 by Lacrosse Magazine and receiving votes in the NCAA poll. Quinnipiac will look to avenge a Bulldog season-sweep in 2012.

The Bobcats continue conference play at home against Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, April 6th, a rematch of the 2011 NEC Championship. Quinnipiac wraps up non-conference action against Harvard (April 9) before hitting the final stretch of the season. The Bobcats travel to Sacred Heart (April 13), host Wagner on Senior Day (April 20) and finish up on the road at Robert Morris (April 27).

The top four teams of the six-school league will earn a spot in the NEC Tournament. The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, May 3rd with the finals set for Sunday, May 5th. The highest seed will host the championship and the winner will earn the NEC's first-ever automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
