Christian Haggerty (West Nyack, N.Y.), Billy Alessi (Branford, Conn.), Brandon Kuring (New Milford, Conn.) and Basil Kostaras (Southlake, Texas) also scored goals for Quinnipiac. Kevin Benzing (Severna Park, Md.) took the loss in net, stopping 12 shots.
Sam Snow and Ryan Mulford led Fairfield with a goal and an assist each, while Doug Kuring, Marshall Johnson, Jordan Greenfield, Shawn Hanovich and Jay Duffy each scored once. Charlie Cipriano got the win in net for Fairfield, making eight saves.
After Oppenheimer got the Bobcats on the board in the opening minutes, Fairfield responded with three straight goals to take a 3-1 advantage by the end of the first quarter. Alessi cut the momentum with a goal at the 10:32 mark of the second quarter, before the team's exchanged the final two goals of the half, the second coming when Brandon Kuring scored his first-career goal at the 8:25 mark to make it a 4-3 game at the break.
Haggerty tied the game, 4-4, with a goal at the 13:12 mark, but the Stags quickly retook the lead when Johnson scored at the 12:27 mark. Fairfield would not trail again.
Fairfield won the next face-off and Hanovich scored at the 12:05 mark to give the Stags a two-goal advantage. Just over a minute later, Fairfield's lead swelled to 7-4 on a Doug Kuring goal.
Quinnipiac cut the deficit to 7-5 on Kostaras' goal off an Oppenheimer feed at the 6:19 mark of the fourth quarter, but could draw no closer.
