On the game-winner, Marotto picked up the rebound of a Basil Kostaras (Southlake, Texas) shot on the doorstep before slipping it past Stags goalie Joe Marra 44 seconds into the extra session. Marotto finished with 15 goals of his 19 career goals in his senior season. He showed a flair for the dramatic in the last two regular-season finales, scoring the game-winner in both. In addition to this year's capper, Marotto scored the game-winning goal with 17 seconds left of last year's regular-season finale at Bellarmine.
At 8-6 (4-3 ECAC), the Bobcats ended the season in third place in ECAC Lacrosse, behind NCAA Tournament qualifiers Denver and Loyola. Marotto's award signified the fourth different Quinnipiac player to be honored by the league this season, joining fellow offensive players of the week, Christian Haggerty (West Nyack, N.Y.) (March 15) and Jack Oppenheimer (Conshohocken, Pa.) (April 26), and defensive player of the week Kevin Benzing (Severna Park, Md.) (March 22).
