Alex Marotto Earns ECAC Lacrosse Co-Offensive Player of the Week

HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University senior men's lacrosse player Alex Marotto (South Windsor, Conn.) has been named the ECAC Lacrosse Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the league office today announced. Playing the final game of his career on senior day, Marotto scored a career-high five goals, including the game-winner in overtime to give the Bobcats an 11-10 sudden-victory win over Fairfield on Saturday. Marotto shares the award with Ohio State's Logan Schuss, who scored seven goals and added an assist in a 19-13 loss at No. 4 North Carolina.

On the game-winner, Marotto picked up the rebound of a Basil Kostaras (Southlake, Texas) shot on the doorstep before slipping it past Stags goalie Joe Marra 44 seconds into the extra session. Marotto finished with 15 goals of his 19 career goals in his senior season. He showed a flair for the dramatic in the last two regular-season finales, scoring the game-winner in both. In addition to this year's capper, Marotto scored the game-winning goal with 17 seconds left of last year's regular-season finale at Bellarmine.

At 8-6 (4-3 ECAC), the Bobcats ended the season in third place in ECAC Lacrosse, behind NCAA Tournament qualifiers Denver and Loyola. Marotto's award signified the fourth different Quinnipiac player to be honored by the league this season, joining fellow offensive players of the week, Christian Haggerty (West Nyack, N.Y.) (March 15) and Jack Oppenheimer (Conshohocken, Pa.) (April 26), and defensive player of the week Kevin Benzing (Severna Park, Md.) (March 22).
