Bobcats Open 2010 Season, ECAC Play At Home Saturday
Afternoon
The Quinnipiac University men's lacrosse team opens the
2010 season and plays its first ECAC Lacrosse game Saturday
afternoon against nationally-ranked No. 10 Loyola (Md.) at the
Quinnipiac Field Hockey and Lacrosse Turf Field. The Bobcats are
coming off a highly-successful fall season in which they won the
inaugural Connecticut Cup, besting Yale twice, as well as fellow
ECAC foe Fairfield. The Greyhounds are coming off an impressive
overtime victory at then-No. 11 Navy to open the 2010
season.
Scouting the Loyola (Md.) Greyhounds
The Greyhounds are led by Cooper MacDonnell, who scored
six of Loyola's eight goals against Navy, including the game winner
with nine seconds left in overtime. Matt Langan paced the
Greyhounds with a pair of assists, while Jake Hagelin made four
saves to earn the win in net.
30
'Cats Back
The Bobcats return 30 of 35 letter winners from a year
ago, including the team's top eight goal scorers. Junior Jack
Oppenheimer scored a team-high 20 goals last season, while
classmate Kevin Kelly was close behind with 17. Senior Ted Dimond
also contributed double-digit goals with 12. Seniors Todd Kaiser
(7), Garett Kerr (7), Alex DeAlmeida (5), Mike Gast (5), and Zach
Dendas (5) all return for the Bobcats' offense.
Benzing Buoys Defense
Senior goalie Kevin Benzing returns as the Bobcats' last
line of defense for his third straight year as Quinnipiac's
starting goalie. Benzing had a .549 save percentage and a 9.07
goals-against average last season.
Mullaney In The Middle
Face-off specialist Ben Mullaney also returns for the
Bobcats after winning exactly half of the face-offs he took last
season (111-222).
Bobcats In Season Openers
Though the Bobcats are just 7-11 all time in season
openers and 4-6 at Division I, they've won their last two.
