Ohio State struck first on a man-up opportunity, as Justin Hayes scored from 10 yards out from the left post off a feed from Ventiquattro with just less than 11 minutes left in the first quarter. Ventiquattro then scored a goal of his own, wrapping around the right post before beating Benzing at the 8:20 mark.

After 20 minutes of scoreless play, the Bobcats got on the board as Kaiser found Oppenheimer alone in front of the net. Oppenheimer faked out Freeman high, before bouncing it in with 35 seconds left in the half. The goal cut the deficit to 3-1 prior to halftime.
Ohio State immediately opened the second-half scoring as Dan Bain won the face-off and took it all the way in, beating Benzing to the top, right corner of the net. The goal put the Buckeyes up, 4-1. With 12:15 remaining in the third, Brock Sorensen took a Dough Ruhnke pass from 35 yards out, beat his defender and unleashed a shot from 20 yards out that beat Benzing. 34 seconds later, Ventiquattro passed from behind the net to a wide open Eddie Bambino in front of the net for an easy goal and a 6-1 advantage.
The Bobcats cut the deficit to four with 13:20 left in the fourth quarter when DeAlmeida evaded his defender and found an open Dimond inside of 10 yards in front of the right post. Dimond beat Freeman, one-on-one, for his 10th goal of the season.
But just over a minute later, Ohio State pushed the lead back to five goals, as Hayes found Mike Pires on the left side. Pires swept in, all the way to the opposite post before beating Benzing low. With 7:44 left in regulation, the Buckeyes' advantage increased to six goals, as Ventiquattro took his third assist, finding Dalgarno at the left post for an easy score.
