Men's Lacrosse Falls At Providence, 7-6

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Kevin Kelly (Redding, Conn.) scored two goals, but the Quinnipiac University men's lacrosse team was defeated by Providence, 7-6, Wednesday night at the Friars Field Hockey and Lacrosse Turf. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 1-5, while Providence improves to 2-4.

Ted Dimond (Marblehead, Mass.), Billy Alessi (Branford, Conn.) and Pat Elliott (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and Todd Kaiser (Summit, N.J.) scored once each for the Bobcats, while Gary Messina (West Islip, N.Y.), Garett Kerr (Inglewood, Ontario) and Kaiser each added an assist. Kevin Benzing (Severna Park, Md.) took the loss, despite making 10 saves.

Danny Ryan led the Friars with three goals, including the game winner. Colin Tigh added two for Providence.

After Tigh scored the first goal of the game less than a minute into the first quarter, the Bobcats responded with five straight goals prior to the midway point of the second quarter. Kelly scored twice in the span, while Dimond, Alessi and Elliott scored once each.

Tigh scored his second of the game to cut the deficit to 5-2 prior to halftime. The Friars then scored the first three goals of the second half, all within the first 7:09 of the third quarter to tie the game, 5-5. Kaiser ended the Friars' run with a goal at the 3:11 mark to put the Bobcats back on top, 6-5.

After nearly 13 minutes of scoreless lacrosse, the Bobby Labadini evened the score at 6-6 with 5:13 left in regulation. Less than a minute later, Ryan scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 4:26 mark.

The Bobcats return to action Sunday, when they play host to Detroit Mercy. The opening face-off is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Field.
