Men's Lacrosse Falls At St. John's, 15-8

QUEENS, N.Y. – Jack Oppenheimer (Conshohocken, Pa.) scored three goals while Garett Kerr (Inglewood, Ontario) and Zach Dendas (Branford, Conn.) added two each but the Quinnipiac University men's lacrosse team fell to St. John's, 15-8, Saturday afternoon at DaSilva Memorial Field. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 1-1 on the season, while the Red Storm improves to 2-0.

Alex DeAlmeida (Pt. Pleasant, N.J.) added a goal for the Bobcats, while Dendas, Mitch Cooper (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Gary Messina (West Islip, N.Y.) each assisted on a goal. Drew Schanen led the Red Storm with four goals and an assist, while four other St. John's players scored two goals each. Harry Kutner had a team-leading four assists.

Kevin Benzing (Severna Park, Md.) (1-1) made six saves, while allowing 11 goals to take the loss in net. Gavin Buckley stopped eight Quinnipiac shots to take the win and improve to 2-0.

The Red Storm scored seven of the game's first eight goals to take a 7-1 lead less than four minutes into the second quarter. The Bobcats couldn't cut the deficit to fewer than four goals the rest of the way.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday, Feb. 28, when they travel to Easton, Pa., to take on Lafayette. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
